Republic Bank partners with Arts Insight to host the "Through Art There Is Realisation" workshops

Port of Spain, Trinidad, March 21, 2013: Republic Bank made good on its commitment to the differently-abled community on March 9, when they joined forces with Arts Insight, a Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO), to host the first in a series of workshops, entitled, "Through Art there is Realisation".

The workshop was held at the Cascade School for the DEAF, Cascade and catered to participants between the ages 15-40.

Arts Insight which was conceptualized in 2011, hopes to use these programmes as an opportunity for the participants to acquire basic art skills. More importantly, the workshop provides a safe therapeutic environment for persons with disabilities, to express emotions to better understand themselves.

Speaking at the launch of the event, Republic Bank's General Manager, Human Resources, Charmaine Caballero, said five years ago, Republic Bank made a commitment to persons with disabilities, to be an advocate for their cause and to offer them avenues for their voices to be heard.

"We are bent on raising awareness by sending a strong and powerful message that each individual regardless of circumstances must enjoy the same rights, responsibilities, opportunities and quality of life," she said.

Facilitator and director of Arts Insight, Jacelle Alexander, said a lot of the participants were hurting and the medium of art was used as a tool for healing. She added that, there were many parents, who experienced difficulties in communicating with their children, and it is their hope (Arts Insight) that through these workshops, they would be better equipped to understand their needs.

The workshop's introductory session was themed, "Love", highlighting the elements of creation, destruction and reparation.

The other two cohorts to follow will be with members of the Blind and Physically Challenged community. The current workshop continues until April 28, 2013 (Saturdays only). For more information interested persons can call Arts Insight at 319-6058 or 498-2108.
